Building Hope in Mbala 2008
Chileshe Chepela Special School

During her visit in October 2007, Sister Sheila advised us of the work that has been done in the Archdiocese of Kasama, where Mbala is located. Through the generosity of St. Pius parishioners, oxen, ox carts, donkeys and carts, medicine and soya have been provided for needy communities. In addition, Sr. Sheila has used some of the money we raised to pay school fees for several young people.

In October 2007, Msgr. Kroetsch wrote to the Archbishop of Kasama, the Financial Administrator of the diocese and the director of schools to ask for recommendations for a project to which St. Pius X Parish could contribute. The most urgent need is for accommodations for disabled children in a school in Kasama. Most of the 220 children in this school are orphans and have become physically disabled since birth due to a lack of medical attention. Their present accommodations, according to Sr. Shiela, are deplorable! The cost to erect the necessary building is approximately $34,000. As a parish, we wish to respond to their request.

The first collection in 2008 in support of our new mission project in Kasama will be recieved on the weekend of January 27, 2008. We look forward to a generous resonse to this appeal as we embark on our new mission project.

Msgr. Kroetsch will be visiting the Archdiocese of Kasama in June 2008 and will bring back a report on our Mission community in Zambia.

All of us are encouraged to pray to God, through the intercession of St. Therese of Lisieux, the patron of missions, that our efforts will make it possible for the children in Kasama to have all that they need and deserve.
